What it Really Means to Start a New Business in a Small Town

There is more to starting a new business in a small town than permits and funding.

Most of these blogs about starting a business typically revolve around downloading a guide, signing up for a webinar, or agreeing to let Tony Robbins cuss me out for 30 minutes straight. They usually don’t spend time talking about the mental stake or the emotional strain. Sure, we all put on our ‘Big Boy Pants’ when we face adversity, but we seldom find blogs that express that side of it.

A Road Less Traveled

The fact is, there’s more to starting a brand new business in a small town after leaving corporate than number crunching, permit gathering, and market research. There’s also thought gathering, internal reflection, and taking a moment to breathe. I mean, this can be a crazy time in life, right?

You fought your entire career to get where you were just to change course and plot a brand new destiny. That’s a pretty big deal. Even though you are committed, mental and emotional strain still takes place. Yes, even through the excitement. Most people honestly do not understand the importance of taking care of our mental health. This is true during stressful times but also exciting times.

The brain can only take so much. Understanding there is an emotional toll and taking care of yourself truly is taking the road less traveled.

Instead of Printing Documents, See Rule #1

The 1, 2, 4 rule. Ever heard of it? It’s a system to help keep your mental health in check, to help you remember to breathe and to remind you not to forget about yourself among the wildflowers.

Rule #1 is to find the time for meditation every day. It’s far more powerful than you may think, and if you’ve never done it before, you’re in for a real treat.

The concept behind meditation is simple: you are emptying your mind, ready to receive, and letting go for a while. Now, when I say, “Let go,” I mean, let go of everything. Drop the bag of worry, doubt, stress, impending bad news, and the next obstacle. Put it down, just for a little while. You’re not giving up; you are simply allowing yourself to relax for a little while so your mind can rejuvenate.

Starting a business from scratch after leaving the Corporate World can bring with it experiences you never planned for. You will experience a rollercoaster of emotions, fear you wouldn’t believe, and stress like a college kid hiding in a forest in a slasher flick. You owe it to yourself to empty your mind for a little while and let go for an hour or so.

Instead of Four Walls, See Rule #2

Sunlight. Rule #2 is sunlight twice a day. You know, they say the best disinfectant is sunlight. The light exposes the truth. Hell, sunlight even powers up Superman. We are absent from the sun for many hours per day. We shouldn’t purposefully deprive ourselves of its ability to force the human body to generate Vitamin D3.

Medical experts believe the availability of Vitamin D directly correlates to an individual’s mental health. The body needs ultraviolet rays from the sun to produce Vitamin D3, which is also why it’s important to get out in the sun at least twice a day. Sunlight also reduces stress, providing yet another crucial component of mental wellness.

The sun causes a chemical reaction in the skin where cholesterol is present to activate the production of D3. It reduces stress and improves mood, and it reduces the risk of blurry eyes. Finding time to spend a few minutes in the sun offers health benefits and offers a healthy way to get a break a couple of times a day.

When Life Hands You Lemons, See Rule #4

Do you wish there was something you could take to reduce inflammation, reduce your risk of heart disease, improve digestion, improve kidney health, detoxify the body, promote skin health, and support weight management? There is, and it can do all of this and more.

Lemon water. Lemon water aids in many bodily functions while providing the best in hydration, as you drink water 4 times a day with rule #4. Lemon water not only tastes great, but it also offers key nutrients for detoxification and immune support, giving you more energy and greater health.

Be sure to drink an 8 oz glass of lemon water 4 times a day, 7 days a week. The best routine is to have it as your first drink of the day, early afternoon, later afternoon, and early evening. This spreads out its benefits throughout the day, every day.

Conclusion

While there are numerous advantages to incorporating the 1, 2, and 4 rules into your daily life, the biggest is living by a routine. Having something you commit to throughout each day builds discipline, resulting in a more steadfast and focused nature. These things build character and teach your body to commit to new routines and tasks with greater ease. It also makes you ready to focus and make a deeper commitment to your new business.
